Amy Kindman of Peek A Book Patterns: Designer Interview

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
“I want to say taking a bath, alone, with the kids in bed, with a book and a bowl of ice cream. Did I mention alone? But....while I would like that most days, I think my kids and husband are what bring me lasting happiness. ”

What is your greatest fear?
“Spiders. No, wait - screaming, throwing up children at 2:00 am on Christmas. Then spiders. ”

What is your favorite color?
“Pink ”

What trait do you most deplore in yourself?
“I'm a bad boss. Mind you, I have no employees besides myself. But sometimes employer Amy makes employee Amy work too much:)”

Amy Hindman of Peek A Book Patterns: Designer Interview
My favorite photo of myself: This pic. is missing my youngest (we really need to get some family photos!) but it will have to do.

What trait do you most deplore in others?
“Rudeness. Just because you're on the internet and can't be seen doesn't mean you shouldn't be polite to everyone.”

What is your greatest extravagance?
“Designer fabric :) Serious weakness for fun knits!"

What is your favorite journey?
“Like, metaphorically? The journey of life's been pretty good so far!”

What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
“Patience. While it may not be "overrated," patience and I have never got along very well."

On what occasion do you lie?
“When reading my kids books at night, sometimes I skip pages, and pretend like I read the whole book. They'll never know.”

What do you dislike most about your appearance?
“Never thought much about that - probably shouldn't start now.”

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“"Don't do that!" ... "Pick up your toys!" ... "Anne, eat your food!""

What is your greatest regret?
“Regret? Long term regrets don't come to mind but we did make a fancy dinner in the Crock Pot last week and forgot to plug it in!”

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
“Easy Question - my Family!”

What talent would you most like to have?
“Cooking!"

Amy Hindman of Peek A Book Patterns: Designer Interview My favorite thing I made myself: The Okey Dokey Overalls are my favorite thing I've made. It's something I never would've dreamed of sewing a few years ago and I'm so happy with how they came out!

What is your current state of mind?
“Craziness! 3 Kids + 1 Pattern Designer = Craziness”

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
“3 Arms - I could get more done that way. Maybe 4 arms.”

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?
“Myself - I don't want someone else's life. ”

Where would you like to live?
“Somewhere with more trees!”

What is your favorite occupation?
“Mother”

What is the quality you most like in a man?
“Dependability- I like to know I can always rely on my husband to be there for me ”

What is the quality you most like in a woman?
“Confidence - women can do great things.”

What do you most value in your friends?
“Someone who really understands me. Many people relate to me as a young mom of kids but not many people even get what my job is”

Amy Hindman of Peek A Book Patterns: Designer Interview My most treasured possessions: My fabric stash.

Who are your favorite artists?
“Pinterest. Well I guess that's not one artist but so many people are creating great art everyday. Many of today's best artists are disguised as moms!”

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
“Harry Potter."

Who are your heroes in real life?
“My Mother!"

What are your favorite motto?
"Just do it."

How would you like to die?
"Um .... of old age, but not too old :)"

Bonnie Ferguson of Fishsticks Designs: Designer Interview

What is your favorite color?
“Red”

What do you dislike most about your appearance?
“Well, I could really stand to lose about 15 pounds, but that would probably require eating far less chocolate.”

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“um .... (Really, I did a radio interview a few months ago, and I'm pretty sure that I said "um" at least 3,182 times in 30 minutes.)"

Bonnie Ferguson of Fishsticks Designs: Designer Interview
My favorite photo of myself: I love this picture of me! (I'm the one all the way to your right. Clockwise around from me are my oldest daughter, my youngest daughter, my oldest son and my oldest daughter's best friend.) It's a ridiculously washed-out and grainy Instagram/iPhone selfie that my oldest daughter snapped when we were in the car a few months ago, but it was a happy day because all of my kids were in town, and we were on our way to watch my teenage son's performance in Les Mis. I think the joy of that day reflects in my face!

What or who is the greatest love of your life?
“Jesus”

What talent would you most like to have?
“I would love to be able to play the guitar or piano!"

Bonnie Ferguson of Fishsticks Designs: Designer Interview My favorite thing I made myself: I simply adore sewing practical, wearable items for my little ones, and I think these pictures really reflect that! Before a weekend trip to Disney a few weeks ago, I made these outfits for my two youngest boys and my granddaughter, and they LOVED them. We got so many compliments on them while we were hanging out at the Magic Kingdom. I think my kids enjoyed being able to say, "My mommy (or GiGi) made it!" as much as I enjoyed hearing them say it. What's even better, though, is that these are clothes they can wear everyday, and they totally do!

Where would you like to live?
“I love living in Florida, but if I had the chance to move to a small town in North Carolina, I would totally jump at it!”

What is your favorite occupation?
“I love doing what I do now because it allows me to express my creativity, make a living and still get to be home with my children - I can't imagine doing anything else! Before I was a mom, though, I always dreamed of being a radio DJ! (I'd have to work on the "um"s!).”

What do you most value in your friends?
“I so appreciate having friends who accept me for who I am, but are willing to tell me in a loving way when I'm wrong.”

Bonnie Ferguson of Fishsticks Designs: Designer Interview My most treasured possessions: My beautiful children are my most treasured "possession". My two oldest are all grown up now, and it's so hard not having them right here with me! Of course, they're not really my possessions, even if I like to think they are. I am incredibly blessed to be their mom, though!

Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
“Kim Possible! I always wanted to be her. She's a cheerleader, and she saves the world. What more could you ask?"

What are your favorite motto?
"Maybe because I'm in my 40s now, one of my favorite quotes is this one from CS Lewis, "You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream." One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 139:5. It's the perfect sewing verse! "You hem me in, behind and before ...""
